Brian Feeney

Dr Brian Feeney is a historian, author and journalist.
 
For 20 years he was Head of History at St Mary’s University College, Belfast, a college of Queens University. He represented North Belfast, where most sectarian murders in Northern Ireland took place, on Belfast city council for 13 years.

During the 1990s he worked extensively as an adviser and consultant in Eastern Europe and Africa advising new parties emerging after the fall of communism on organisation, structure and policy making. He worked in the then Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bosnia, Georgia, Lebanon, Palestine, Ethiopia, Angola and South Africa.

He is co-author of the award-winning Lost Lives, the stories of the men, women and children killed in the Northern Ireland Troubles, and is the author of, Sinn Féin: a Hundred Turbulent Years, A Short History of the Troubles, Insider: Gerry Bradley’s Life in the IRA, Seán Mac Diarmada.

For twenty-five years he has been a political columnist with the Irish News, the largest selling newspaper in Northern Ireland and a regular commentator and broadcaster on BBC Northern Ireland.
