Josephine Feehily - Chairperson of the Policing Authority

The art of the possible: is Ireland really ready for police oversight?
Josephine Feehily

Josephine Feehily was appointed the first  Chairperson  of the Policing Authority by the then Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald in 2015. Josephine retired at the end of January 2015 from the position of Chairman of the Office of the Revenue Commissioners – the Irish Tax and Customs Authority. She was one of the three Commissioners who form the Board of Revenue since 1998, the first woman to hold that position in Ireland. In that time, her Board level executive responsibilities have included policy and legislation, tax collection, strategy and organisation, development and the Customs Service.

Josephine was elected Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation for three years from June 2011. From November 2012, she chaired the OECD Forum for Tax Administration – a Commissioner level Forum of advanced Tax Authorities – at a time of significant international debate about global tax matters.

Josephine is a graduate of the National College of Ireland and Trinity College Dublin. In 2016 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Limerick.
