Professor of Political Communication & former journalist
Prof Kevin Rafter
Kevin is Professor of Political Communication at Dublin City University and an experienced non-executive director.

He has authored/edited numerous books on topics related to media and politics, including several party histories and political biographies and, most recently, Political Advertising in the 2014 European Parliament Elections (co-editor, Palgrave 2017) and the forthcoming Media and Elections in Ireland Since 1969 (co-author, Manchester University Press).

He was the 'Independent Rapporteur' to post-election government talks in 2016 and facilitated the formation of current minority coalition administration. He also chaired an independent review of the civil service in 2014.

A former political journalist, he held a number of senior editorial positions with RTÉ and the Irish Times before leaving journalism in 2008.

Kevin is a non-executive director at Dublin Bus and Oxfam Ireland, and was recently appointed Chair of the Compliance Committee of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

He is also a lay member of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal. He has a BA (Mod) and MLitt in economics and a MA and PhD in political science and a Diploma in Corporate Law & Governance.
